Does the Orchid Spec speculum have an internal light?

No, we do not, however ...

The short answer is 'no, we do not offer an inner light solution.' However, please let me explain why not.

We pride ourselves in the fact that we offer the most ecological speculum. We are the first manufacturer to offer a 100% biobased speculum made from sugarcane, making it up to 16 times more environmentally friendly than the most used disposable alternative.

An internal light source offers excellent benefits, however, not without a hefty toll on the environment. Also, in our experience, we feel that this internal light source is overused. We have developed a product that does not need an inner light in 95% of the cases. Our speculum comes in the 'clean white' option, which deflects the external light to the tip of the bills much better than a metal or transparent speculum. As a result, no inner light is needed in most cases, which is a more cost-effective and sustainable solution.

Another downside to having a battery-lit speculum is separating the battery from the speculum waste. It is time-consuming, often messy, can lead to cross-contamination, and it's environmentally impacting, especially when batteries get thrown into the general trash.

For these reasons, 95% of all specula we sell in Europe are in the 'clean white' option. However, we understand that an interior light is helpful in certain situations (such as in an ER); therefore, we are exploring a clip-on light source for our speculum.

We would love to hear your thoughts on this once you've tried out our white Orchid Spec speculum if you are interested.
